The 2020/21 Consumer Awards

Vehicle owners and judges weigh in on the best new cars in the 2020/21 Consumer Awards.

Now in its sixth iteration, and regarded as the country’s most definitive automotive awards programme, the annual #CarsAwards recognise the best cars in 13 segments of the domestic new-vehicle market.

In early November, all three finalists in each category were subjected to rigorous testing at the Gerotek facility in Gauteng by the combined judging panel of six editorial team members and 14 respected guest judges of various backgrounds and fields of expertise. The 20 judges’ scores for each of the 39 finalists only count for 50% of the final standings; the other 50% is based on rankings that the respective vehicle brands represented by the finalists achieve in
the Ownership Satisfaction Survey. The data incorporates feedback from thousands of vehicle owners, based on their experience of their vehicles (which must be less than five years old, and serviced through franchised outlets).

Toyota has again made a solid showing among this year’s #CarsAwards finalists with five models: the Starlet XR (Budget Car category), the RAV4 2.0 AWD GX-R (Family Car category), the Fortuner 2.8 GD-6 4×4 VX Auto (Adventure SUV category), the C-HR 1.2T Luxury (Crossover category), and the Hilux 2.8 GD-6 Legend 4×4 Auto (Leisure Double Cab category).

The winners will be announced at an event in February 2021.
